Speaking out and proud

If you know me, you know I’m a talker. I thrive on making connections and collaborating with other people. And if telling my story can help even one person out there, it’s all worth it.

It’s why I’m honored to be speaking at these upcoming cancer advocacy events. Below are the details and registration information. If you’re attending, please say hello!

National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) Oncology Policy Summit

When: Monday, May 6, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (EDT)
Where: National Press Club, Washington, D.C.
My role: Keynote speaker and panelist

As one of two keynote speakers at this NCCN Oncology Policy Summit, I will be sharing “A Cervivor’s Story” (from 1:15 to 1:40 p.m.) about my diagnosis with cervical cancer as a young adult, which led me to start Cervivor, Inc., to spread awareness about this preventable disease. Later, I’ll be part of a panel about “Policy’s Impact on Sexual and Reproductive Health in Cancer Care” (1:50 to 2:55 p.m.). As I told NCCN when I accepted their invitation to speak, “I believe sexual and reproductive health should be core aspects of cancer care. It’s about quality of life and dignity. Policies must reflect this to ensure everyone gets the care they need and deserve.” Register to join virtually.

Bridging the Gap in Cancer Care for Adolescents and Young Adults – Featured Event by The Atlantic

When: Friday, May 31, 5:30 p.m. (MDT)
Where: Lacuna Lofts, Chicago, IL
My role: Panelist

I’ve previously done AtlanticLIVE talks, such as this oldie-but-goodie “I Have a Tumor Where?” one. At this upcoming free Featured Event hosted by The Atlantic, I’ll be on a panel of fellow survivors who beat cancer as young adults and are now oncologists and advocates. (Did you know that close to 1.5 million adolescents and young adults worldwide, aged 15 to 39, are diagnosed with cancer each year? Now you do!) You’ll find out about different pioneering local programs including our seasonal Cervivor Schools. Register for the free event.

Tamika Felder, founder of Cervivor, Inc., speaks to a group of women at a 2024 Cervivor School event in New York, empowering them to advocate for cervical cancer prevention.

I love speaking at various events, but some of my favorite audiences to address are at Cervivor Schools, like this group of cervical cancer patients and survivors in Chicago in 2019.

A Night Out For Wipe Out

When: Friday, June 21, 7 p.m. (EDT)
Where: Clubhouse On Highland, South Birmingham, Alabama
My role: Emcee

If you don’t already know about the incredible work that Operation Wipe Out does in Alabama to save women’s lives from cervical cancer, give this short video a look. I can’t tell you how moved I am to be able to emcee this event to celebrate champions from across the state’s public, private, academic, and non-profit sectors who raise awareness about HPV and cervical cancer prevention and facilitate access to vaccination, screening, follow-up, and treatment. Purchase tickets or consider taking up a sponsorship package.

35th Annual UPMC Health Plan Women’s Cancer Survivorship Workshop And Celebration

When: Sunday, June 23, 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (CDT)
Where: The Circuit Center & Ballroom, Pittsburgh, PA
My role: Keynote speaker

This free-to-attend fundraising event is organized annually by the Magee-Womens Research Institute and Foundation – the country’s largest research institute dedicated to women’s health. This year, I have been asked to be the keynote speaker. Pinch me! The event will feature specialists discussing the latest cancer therapies and research as well as a raffle and candle-lighting ceremony to celebrate survivorship. Register or become a sponsor.

Tamika Felder, a cervical cancer advocate and motivational speaker, holds her son, Chayton, during a quiet moment at a NYC event. He is sleeping in her arms with a pacifier in his mouth. If you see me at a speaking engagement, there is a good chance, you’ll see my son, Chayton, with me. He’s my constant travel companion these days.

Survive & Thrive Conference 2024

When: Saturday, Sept. 28, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, Sept. 29, 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (CDT)
Where: Sheraton Austin Georgetown Hotel & Conference Center, Georgetown, TX
My role: Emcee and presenter

Have I mentioned how much I love the team at Texas Oncology? Well, I do – starting with its Director of Survivorship Dr. Kathryn Hudson, my fellow Featured Presenter at the organization’s annual conference dedicated to “embracing life after cancer.” I am also the event’s emcee and will be running the show! The lineup includes educational lectures, expert panels, workshops, and other activities and networking opportunities. Dr. Cindy Trice – a veterinarian, serial entrepreneur, and cancer survivor – is the keynote speaker. Her KickIt Pajamas company makes functional and fashionable clothing for women throughout their cancer journey. Register for either or both days. (Note: There’s an early bird discount through June 12.)
